According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, traffic deaths are up 7.7% across the country. In Clark County, the Nevada Highway Patrol has noted an 8.25% increase in fatal traffic accidents with 105 deaths so far in 2016 compared to 97 by this point last year. There have already been 14 fatal accidents this year in North Las Vegas compared to 19 in all of 2015.
This week, cyclists voiced their concern about the lack of penalties drivers often face when they hit bicyclists on the road while violating bike lane laws. Nevada drivers are required to obey a three-foot rule when overtaking a cyclist going in the same direction.
